Throughout the fall of 2015 and the spring of 2016, I participated in a program named Junior Leadership Macomb (JLM). JLM is an organization dedicated to helping high school Juniors become active and responsible citizens as well as leaders in their schools and communities. Once a month, students from over 20 high schools in Macomb County met to discuss different topics including art, culture, business, government, etc. At the end of the program, students must separate into groups and put together a community service project. My group volunteered and raised several hundred dollars for Turning Point, a shelter for victims of sexual assault and abuse. Lifeguard/First Aid Training
While working as a Clerk for the St. Clair Shores Municipal Pool in the summer of 2016, I attended lifeguard classes in order to get certified in Life guarding, First Aid, CPR, and AED. I decided to undergo this training because I wanted to better serve the SCS community and visitors to the pool. I was qualified to work in multiple areas of the pool and could sub wherever I was needed. I was re-certified on May 21st, 2017. In total, I have spent two Summers working as a Clerk, Lifeguard, and in the concessions. Financial Literacy Training
While taking the course Personal Finance in the spring of my Senior Year, I was required to become familiar with all financial aspects of life through an Everfi course. Throughout the trimester, I completed nine modules that taught me how to be Financially intelligent and stable in today's world. These modules include Savings, Banking, (Payment, Interest Rates, Credit Cards), Credit Scores, Financing Higher Education, Renting vs Owning, Taxes and Insurance, Consumer Fraud, and Investing. I learned strategies for being successful in life, and would lie to thank my teacher, Mr. Daly for giving me the opportunity to take this course and for his wisdom and guidance throughout it. |
